Another vital component of FatraKa is our plastic recycling program. While in an earlier stage than the FatraKa art division, the youths of SAKALA and Cité Soleil have already begun collecting and sorting plastic bottles and other items.
FatraKa has started a pilot program where people can buy meals at local foodstands using plastic bottles they have collected as currency — thus enabling food security at a time of great economic hardship in Haiti while also helping to clean the environment.
Some day we hope to see plastic recycling and processing facilities in Cité Soleil, bringing good jobs to the area while helping to provide a cleaner, healthier environment for people to live in.
